Boutique of the Week: For The Love of Chocolate

3136 W Cary St

Richmond, VA 23221

Walking into For the Love of Chocolate is like diving head-first into a bucket of Halloween candy, only way better. One could spend a few hours in the candy boutique just looking at all the chocolates, candies and cookies from all over the world crammed from the ground to the ceiling on self after shelf.

Many of the chocolates and candies are ones you'd only be able to find in Europe. For example, the chocolate penguins that were a staple of my friends diet while abroad in Galway, Ireland. She hadn't seen the penguins anywhere in America until discovering them in For the Love of Chocolate in Carytown, between American Apparel and Can Can Brasserie.

"People bring stuff up to the register all the time and are like, 'I've never seen this before,'" said Brandon Allen, a salesman at the shop.

Salesman William Strollo's favorite things in the store are the Belgian chocolates, he said. The Belgian chocolate is some of the highest quality, but the store also has excellent candy from countries from Ecuador to Switzerland. You can get a bag and fill it with chocolate covered almonds, chocolate covered espresso beans and hundreds of other options. Also, you can find everyday candy such as Junior Mints and Push Pops.

Don't count the store out if you don't like chocolate there are plenty of sugar candies, syrups and cookies to keep the chocophob occupied. There is a wall of every Jelly Belly flavor imaginable. Or, get some dog cookies for your favorite canine. The huge Selma's Cookies that come fresh from Atlanta are Allen's favorite, he said. The store also bakes cookies fresh every morning.
