Vote Obama for president

I support Barack Obama for many reasons, but I will only touch on a few of these reasons due to time constraints.

Throughout this election cycle, we have been told over and over how the economy is the most important issue in this election. As a senior who has yet to find a job for next year, I agree that the economy is important, but I can't buy into this whole idea that the economy is the only thing that matters. I must reiterate, however, that I firmly believe our economy is and will continue to improve under President Obama.

For me, this election is about values.

President Obama has repeatedly stated that he does not believe this country is at its best when large percentages of its citizens feel marginalized. The economy will grow if everyone believes they have an equal opportunity to succeed. And how do we do this? We make investments in education, infrastructure and clean energy.

Additionally, we must stop treating the LGBT community and women like second class citizens. I still don't understand why the GOP keeps trying to define rape, but that's beside the point.

As a woman, I am proud to support a president that I know has my best interests at heart, and as an ally of the LGBT community, I cannot say enough how proud I am of the president's position in favor of gay marriage and refusal to defend the Defense of Marriage Act.

I've seen the hate firsthand people have for our friends in the LGBT community growing up in Montgomery, Ala., and I can honestly say I will never support a candidate who does not support the rights of my friends.

I trust Barack Obama. He has kept his word on a host of issues. I cannot say the same for Mitt Romney. This man has flip-flopped on every major issue, and literally no one knows what he plans to cut in order to pay for his grand ol' tax plan.

As everyone has said, the math doesn't add up, and the tax burden will fall on the middle class. I can't help but remember how strong the calls were for candidate after candidate to jump into the Republican primary race last fall. Not even Republicans really wanted Mitt Romney then. But why? Ironically, they didn't trust him either. And do you know what? I still don't.

Obama/Biden 2012. Let's keep moving America forward.
