Richmond head baseball coach resigns

University of Richmond head baseball coach Mark McQueen resigned from his position today, according to RichmondSpiders.com.

McQueen and assistant coach Tag Montague were suspended on May 18, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Montague's suspension has since been lifted.

Assistant coach Charlie Goens served as the interim coach for the remainder of the season.

In its announcement, Richmond stated, "a national search is underway" for a new head coach.

Several members of the team have not been able to be reached for comment.

McQueen said he is "not allowed" to comment on his resignation.

He was in his 19th year with the Spiders and sixth as head coach.

"There are other things that [McQueen] is interested in doing,"said Keith Gill, who is Richmond's director of athletics. "He thinks this is a good time to pursue those opportunities."
