ShawnDre' Jones unintentionally fuels rivalry with Snapchat

The Black and Blue Classic got a little bit more intense on Monday after Richmond’s sophomore guard ShawnDre' Jones sent a picture on Snapchat that has garnered much social media attention.

The picture features Jones raising his middle finger and can be seen here. According to a press release from the Richmond Athletics department, two derogatory words regarding VCU were added by a third party in an attempt to make it seem as if Jones wrote the words himself.

The third party then distributed the picture through a discontinued Twitter account, with “the obvious intention of arousing controversy before the Richmond-VCU game,” the press release said.

According to the press release, the situation is being handled internally with a focus around learning sound judgment.

A school spokesman told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that any discipline against Jones would not involve playing time, which is positive news for the Spiders heading into Wednesday’s matchup.

Richmond will host VCU for the second time this season at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Spiders won the first matchup 64-55.
