WCGA Looks Forward to the Year Ahead

The Westhampton College Government Association (WCGA) is so excited to hit the ground running in the 2015-2016 school year. We are happy to share some of our goals with you and also show you how you can get involved!

As the governing student body composed solely of Westhampton College students, WCGA serves as the WC student voice to University administrators. WCGA also helps organize and support campus-wide events and traditions, including Color Wars, Proclamation Night, and Ring Dance. Throughout the school year, we also work to address student concerns and allocate funds to student organizations. We are always looking for student input, so feel free to stop by any of our meetings in the Westhampton Center every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30pm to share your ideas.

This year, one of our main goals is to increase interaction with campus clubs and organizations for greater transparency. Senators will make an effort to reach out to every club at some point during the year in order to be more aware of the club’s needs and allow for better communication. WCGA is also excited to promote CampusQuad, our new campus smart phone application that will make publicizing and discovering campus events even easier. Additionally, this year the WCGA Finance Committee liaisons will work to ensure that all clubs and organizations understand how to properly acquire funding. This semester, our Academic Affairs Committee will be working with Dr. Gruner to attempt to launch a Student Academic Advising program that would pair first-year students with an upperclassman to provide a student perspective on academic planning.

We also hope to continue developing a strong relationship with the entire student body. We hope that you will stop by and say hi when you see WCGA tabling in the commons, at TOTS, tailgates, or any other campus events!

To any members of WC Class of 2019 interested in running for President of her class or for one of the six Senator positions, there is a mandatory interest meeting Sunday, September 6th from 4 to 5pm in the Westhampton Center. Joining student government is a great way to get involved on campus, meet upperclassmen and learn about behind-the-scenes work at UR – making campus feel even more like home! We hope to see many of your faces there. The election will be held Wednesday, September 16th. For more details, contact Ashley James, Board of Elections Chair.

Elections Timeline:

 • Officially declare candidacy by Monday night, Sept. 7
 • Campaigning occurs between Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Tuesday, Sept. 15
 • Wednesday, Sept. 9 sit in on a WCGA meeting from 5:30-7:30
 • Voting will be online Wednesday, Sept. 16

We want to welcome all of the first-years to campus again, and are very excited for this year!

Daisy love,

Westhampton College Government Association
