National Geographic named Richmond, Virginia, the number one place to travel for food in 2016. Described as a place where chefs are whipping up southern cuisine with a contemporary flair, Richmond has been attracting foodies from all over the world. We all know that a meal is not complete without a delicious dessert and Richmond will not disappoint in that area. For anyone with a sweet tooth, you’ve come to the right place because there’s a spot (and dessert) for just about everyone in this city.

Shyndigz (pictured right): A stay in Richmond is not complete without a trip to Shyndigz. As Richmond’s first dessert-only restaurant, Shyndigz offers about a dozen different types of cakes, pies and other sweet treats on any given night. One of the best parts about it is that since the slices are so massive, you’re almost guaranteed to have leftovers for the next day! If you have never been, I recommend making a point to go before the semester ends.

Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches – Nightingale is taking dessert in a new and unexpected direction! Serving classic flavors as well as one-of-a-kind combinations, their ice cream sandwiches will make the perfect spring day even better.

10 Italian Café (pictured left) – Settled right in the heart of Carytown, 10 Italian Café is the perfect destination for post-dinner coffee and desserts. They offer a wide selection of authentic coffee drinks as well as a variety of pastries (the cannolis do not disappoint). With seating outdoors and a calm vibe inside, 10 Italian Café will satisfy your sweet craving at any time of day.

Early Bird Biscuit Co. & Bakery – A store dedicated to bread and desserts? Yes, please! Using local ingredients and making the products in-house, you know Early Bird Biscuit Co. takes pride in what they serve. While they do offer a few savory choices, their classic flaky buttermilk biscuit with jam is the way to go. Not to mention the great desserts – Gooey Mississippi Mud Bites, Nutella Hand Pies and Espresso Dark Chocolate Cakelets, just to name a few.

Proper Pie Co. – For all you pie fanatics out there, make sure to give this place a try! It is located pretty close to campus, in Church Hill, so if you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth consider visiting Proper Pi Co.!

WPA Bakery – WPA Bakery is a local establishment offering dozens of different in-house desserts as well as special orders. Led by a pastry chef that received the best pastry chef/baker award in 2014, you know anything you try will be tasty!
