Two weeks into his final semester at Richmond, Geoff Weathersby has already raised more than $6,000 toward a memorial scholarship fund for his father, Terry Weathersby, using only social media. Weathersby's father lost a five-year battle with head-and-neck cancer in October 2011; his family decided that in lieu of flowers, they wanted people to donate to a fund.

The Solidarity Action For Haiti Committee (SAFH) hosted a Solidarity Action for Haiti Day to raise awareness and funds for Haiti. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the country on Jan. 12, destroying most of the country's buildings, including homes, schools and hospitals. SAFH hoped to involve the university community in making a connection to the Haitian people and their culture.
