Working out in quarantine may seem nearly impossible, especially if you do not have the standard equipment at home. But fitting in a good, free, at-home workout via apps or social media can be easier than you think.

Ninety-two runners, grouped according to speed, gradually emerge from the woods on a dwindling, hilly trail marked by rocks and roots. One by one, each runner routinely drops down into a plank position on the muddy ground. It's 6:30 a.m. and as the sun peers above the tall treetops, the only sounds that can be heard are the flowing of the James River, birds chirping, heavy panting and a trainer's booming commands: "Down in a plank! Let's go! This isn't a walking class! Tell them to hurry up back there!"

Academic stress doesn't bring out the best in any of us. Some retreat to the library for 24+ hours, subsisting off 8:15 bagels and red eyes (double shot, iced, with skim). Some plan ahead, only to spend the morning leading up to the exam or deadline freaking out that they didn't study hard enough, or forgot an essential detail.

Jan. 1 it was 70 degrees in my hometown, and I was one of the many people spending the day outside. No doubt these people had made a promise to themselves to start the year off with healthy habits. It's common to make a resolution that will improve your physical health, whether it be going to the gym more often or swearing off D-hall dessert.

If you're like most people, you have mid-terms or the equivalent this time in the semester, and you're busy with school, extracurriculars, maybe volunteering and yes, papers, exams and other assignments are a priority! This is the season that gym attendance takes a serious dip as people prioritize their time and squeeze in group meetings and study time where exercise was once scheduled. Most, if not all, free time for a workout is often stolen to tend to academic pursuits. Please be careful and resist the urge to call a complete seasonal intermission to your exercise routine. Easier said than done? I would agree, but here are some pretty convincing thoughts to help you make the right decision at that moment in the week when you know it's time for a workout despite work that may be looming.

If you are like me, perhaps you are plotting that perfect spring break getaway to an exotic locale for some sun, fun and relaxation. But before you board that 747 make sure you chart your course to the following coordinates: well rested, well hydrated, satiated and remain active while cruising above the earth. These are the hallmarks to ensuring that you have a smooth and enjoyable flight.

This new month signals a time for evaluation. It's a time to work on areas of weakness in preparation for an enhanced performance and product.

So, have your New Year's resolutions once again found you where they met you in previous years? That is, right there stuck only in the New Year? If you are like most of us, your resolutions fall short of the term. If you find that your resolutions dissolve into something you must constantly re-visit or resolve every year, then either you are insane or, more likely, just human and maybe a bit uninspired. Goals can be fitness or health related, and they may also be lifestyle related. Goals are meant to improve you. This year, work on creating strategic and goal-oriented resolutions that stick and that are resolved by the year's end. Sure, that is much easier said than done, but here are some ways to help:

Midterms signal a time for midway evaluation. It's a time to work on areas of weakness in preparation for an enhanced performance and a better product than before.

So maybe you never want to be considered a typical gym rat, and you don't have to, even if you do want to flex during Beach Week. To smash the myth, weight training is not just a man's activity; ladies can and should do it, too.

You'd think that working out is working out, plain and simple ‐ whether it be running on the treadmill at home, trying to drop your recently acquired college pounds or fooling yourself into thinking that you can keep them off at the lovely Richmond gym ‐ and you'd think that all workouts are created equal. Wrong.

I'll be brief. For four years, I've awaited the new gym. Our old one was a joke —\0xAD a very bad joke. Anyone with a clue would agree with me. However, the new gym is not $10 million or whatever-the-price-it-was better. It is about, I would say, $20 better, or the price of three delicious Chipotle burritos with accompanying Nantucket Nectars. That is correct; I would rather have four delicious Chipotle burritos than the new gym. Here's why:
