University of Richmond community members gathered in the Ukrop Auditorium Sunday afternoon to discuss the Board of Trustees' recent decision to cut the men's track and field and soccer teams in favor of adding a men's lacrosse team at a forum called UR SOS (Save Our Sports). Richmond football used an explosive third quarter, in which the Spiders scored four touchdowns, to cruise past VMI in Lexington, Va., on Saturday. It was Richmond's second consecutive victory, giving the team momentum as they prepare to enter CAA conference play next week when they head to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia State University.
Richmond football recorded its first victory in its last 10 tries on Saturday, defeating Gardner-Webb University, 41-8. The win also serves as Danny Rocco's first as Spiders head coach.
After four years of anticipation, the Class of 2013 commenced the festivities of their final year in college with the Senior Toga Social. The party took place on Thursday, August 30 in the Greek Theater. Hundreds of seniors arrived just after 9 p.m. to a mixture of the latest pop, hip hop and rap songs echoing loudly throughout the outdoor arena. The full moon and bright, colorful strobe lights set the mood on the dance floor for the elated seniors.

Images of unborn and aborted fetuses were displayed prominently in the middle of the Forum on Monday. The act was set up by Spiders for Life, University of Richmond's Pro-life group. Senior Maggie Egger, president of Spiders for Life, invited community members who shared her beliefs against abortion to help set up and stand with the display. Students supporting Pro-choice beliefs protested the display of the graphic images by standing holding signs to tell students walking by to look down or away while walking past the images.
Student volunteers sorted through one day's worth of trash from Lora Robins Court as part of a waste audit held in the University of Richmond Forum on March 22. The waste audit was a part of RecycleMania, a campus-wide effort to help raise awareness about sustainability. According to Megan Zanella-Litke, University of Richmond sustainability coordinator, 20 percent of the sorted trash could have been recycled.

Before Wednesday night's men's basketball game against Dayton University, five Richmond seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony for senior night. The seniors combined to score two points in Richmond's 82-71 victory, both coming from an emphatic dunk from Francis-Cedrick Martel. Junior Darien Brothers scored a game-high 30 points and freshman Kendall Anthony added 20 points off the bench. The team now heads into Atlantic 10 Conference tournament play, with its first opponent yet to be determined.

Last weekend's annual Ring Dance was held at the Jefferson Hotel to honor the Westhampton Class of 2013. Ticket sales for this year's event were reportedly down from previous years. It is tradition for the junior women to wear white dresses and be escorted down the front staircase by their fathers and non-junior women who attend are expected to wear black.

A new video podcast will be uploaded each Monday morning and will feature campus events, sports, weather and community events.
Sponsors of URThankful, a University of Richmond food drive campaign, celebrated their collection efforts on Nov. 12 on the Westhampton Green. It featured an obstacle course and horse-drawn carriage rides, along with interactive stations led by student organizations. The festival was free for students to attend.
