Let's be honest: Virginia doesn't have any stellar candidates for governor this year. But that doesn't mean you get a free pass to sit out this election. It's a common misconception that state-level elections, unlike presidential or Congressional races, aren't all that important. That's just not true.

Every day, throughout the state, and all over the country, people undergo all kinds of medical procedures. To have these procedures done, a preliminary procedure is performed to eliminate potential risks and surprises.

Nico Doreste's comparison between a medical procedure and rape in his submission, "Government rape: Ultrasounds," to The Collegian last week was beyond ridiculous. In last week's opinion section, an article was published titled, "Abortion Seems to Defy All Logic." The author began by making the analogy of the past enslavement of African Americans to the enslavement of aborted babies.

"They're not really humans," "Their lives hold the potential to improve the lives of others," "Doing this is economically necessary for some," "It's not morally wrong," and, "If you don't want one, don't get one." Such were the arguments for keeping slaves in the 1800s.

Abortion is ordinarily a touchy subject that often sparks heated and unpleasant discussions, but the mood in the University of Richmond's Alice Haynes room on Monday night was light and friendly during the abortion debate, "Women, Choice and Abortion: What are the Issues?"

What is Spiders for Life? The club has been "on the books" for quite a while, but in recent years it has faded away almost entirely. Until now, that is.
