One of the three suspects who were arrested and charged with the murder of Brendan Tevlin has plead not guilty. Tevlin, who completed his freshman year at Richmond this spring, was shot and killed in his family's Jeep June 25 in New Jersey.

Madison Holleran, a freshman member of the University of Pennsylvania track team, jumped to her death from a parking garage two weeks ago. The New York Daily News reported a family friend had said her suicide was a result of the stress of wanting to excel in academics and athletics.

Ever since I was accused of spreading racist ideology by a University of Richmond professor because I had asked whether a certain U.S. president was racist, I feel much freer to express my opinion. You can tell a lot about people by their response to an unorthodox question. When the answer is nothing short of a personal accusation, and the responder happens to be a University of Richmond professor or an administrator, you begin thinking, "OK, maybe I am being indoctrinated with their own beliefs instead of being taught to judge for myself."

Three nights ago, I stayed up until 3 a.m. and got up at 8 a.m. Two nights ago, I followed that five hours up with an all-nighter and did not sleep at all. Then yesterday evening, at around 5 p.m., I crashed out of my own accord and slept until 9 a.m. this morning.
