Chemistry professor Carol Parish established a sub-chapter of Richmond's Guiding Eyes for the Blind on campus this spring, with official sponsorship of the university.
Starting next fall, one or two puppies will live on campus in the University Forest Apartments with students who will train them for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, chemistry professor Carol Parish said.
Junior Alexis Achey lives in the University Forest Apartments with her service dog, Winston, who helps her to manage her Type 1 Diabetes through his sense of smell, which detects when her blood sugar levels are out of range.
