Before Wednesday night's men's basketball game against Dayton University, five Richmond seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony for senior night. The seniors combined to score two points in Richmond's 82-71 victory, both coming from an emphatic dunk from Francis-Cedrick Martel. Junior Darien Brothers scored a game-high 30 points and freshman Kendall Anthony added 20 points off the bench. The team now heads into Atlantic 10 Conference tournament play, with its first opponent yet to be determined.

Headed into the 2009 College Basketball Invitational, Richmond's postseason reward for an 18-15 season, then freshman forward Darrius Garrett was used but sparingly. After playing nine games in the regular season, Garrett had amassed four points and zero blocks.

The first two games of the year, the University of Richmond had to rely on a small freshman guard and a sophomore point guard with no career starts entering this year for scoring. On Thursday night, that small freshman still was one of Richmond's top scorers, but it was a pair of upperclassmen that had the biggest points.

While I was leaving the University of Delaware last weekend, I was reminded that at one point this year, Richmond was ranked in the top five in the nation. After the team's seventh straight loss, a loss that wasn't as close as the 24-10 score indicated, it was easy to forget that fact.

NEWARK, Del. — Richmond lost its seventh straight game, all in the Colonial Athletic Association, after Saturday night's 24-10 loss at the University of Delaware. Blue Hens tailback Andrew Pierce rushed for 215 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blue Hens. The Richmond defense gave up three first-half touchdowns but held Delaware to just a field goal during the second half.

For the past four years, Richmond coach Chris Mooney was no stranger to the smallest player on the court for Richmond doing most of the scoring. If Friday night's season opener is any indication, he'll get to see that happen for the next four years.
