Richmond shutout Rhode Island on Homecoming Weekend, 39-0. The win moved the Spiders record to 6-3 overall, and 4-2 in conference play.
The Richmond men's soccer program played its final game on Friday, as it was announced earlier this year that it would be cut, along with men's track and field, in favor of adding a men's lacrosse program. The team played to 3-3 tie with nationally-ranked VCU. Senior goalkeeper Chris Grover led the way for the Spiders with 11 saves, while Nick Butler, Oliver Murphy and Mannaan Umar scored a goal each.
Despite a fourth-quarter comeback by James Madison, Richmond was able to hold on for the win, 35-29, on Saturday in front of a sold-out Robins Stadium. The upset of the second-ranked Dukes serves as Danny Rocco's signature win in his first season as Spiders head coach. The star of the game for UR was sophomore quarterback Michael Strauss, who threw for 4 touchdowns in his first collegiate start. He'll start the rest of the season because incumbent starter John Laub suffered a broken ankle.
University of Richmond community members gathered in the Ukrop Auditorium Sunday afternoon to discuss the Board of Trustees' recent decision to cut the men's track and field and soccer teams in favor of adding a men's lacrosse team at a forum called UR SOS (Save Our Sports). President Edward Ayers spoke and answered questions about the decision and why it took place, while others spoke in opposition to the news. See the full story HERE.
Richmond football used an explosive third quarter, in which the Spiders scored four touchdowns, to cruise past VMI in Lexington, Va., on Saturday. It was Richmond's second consecutive victory, giving the team momentum as they prepare to enter CAA conference play next week when they head to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia State University.
Richmond football recorded its first victory in its last 10 tries on Saturday, defeating Gardner-Webb University, 41-8. The win also serves as Danny Rocco's first as Spiders head coach.
After four years of anticipation, the Class of 2013 commenced the festivities of their final year in college with the Senior Toga Social. The party took place on Thursday, August 30 in the Greek Theater. Hundreds of seniors arrived just after 9 p.m. to a mixture of the latest pop, hip hop and rap songs echoing loudly throughout the outdoor arena. The full moon and bright, colorful strobe lights set the mood on the dance floor for the elated seniors.

Last weekend's annual Ring Dance was held at the Jefferson Hotel to honor the Westhampton Class of 2013. Ticket sales for this year's event were reportedly down from previous years. It is tradition for the junior women to wear white dresses and be escorted down the front staircase by their fathers and non-junior women who attend are expected to wear black.
