We all know WebstUR -- our fuzzy, energetic, eight-legged mascot who can be found riling up the crowd on game day or welcoming prospective students on campus visits. We know that WebstUR is a symbol of school spirit and One Richmond. But what do we know about the people inside the suit?

Shortly after the 2019 NFL Draft, University of Richmond wide receiver Cortrelle Simpson signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and center John Yarbrough signed with the Chicago Bears as undrafted free agents.

After a long preseason practice in the grueling August heat, Gus was still as energetic as ever. His team returned to the athletic training center to recover after their workout, and there was Gus, in the hot tub, “unwinding.” With a towel wrapped around his head, he was shoulder deep in the water, surrounded by bubbles and swaying back and forth, a wide smile across his face, singing loudly to anyone who passed.
“Playing in the NFL was always my dream growing up,” John Yarbrough, a senior Chicago Bears fanatic who finished his final season this fall on the Spider offensive line said. “It is something that has always been in the back of my head.”

A sporting counterculture has formed at the University of Richmond, creating a visible lack of students present at sporting events, a divide between the athletes and their classmates and a problem for UR athletics that remains unsolved, students and athletes said.
Richmond scored two touchdowns in the final minute to complete a dramatic comeback against Saint Francis. Redshirt junior quarterback Kevin Johnson completed a 65-yard drive with a pass to senior receiver Tyler Wilkins to cut the Saint Francis lead to 29-27 with only two seconds left on the clock. In the game’s final play, Saint Francis attempted to lateral the ball multiple times, which resulted in a fumble. Junior Spider defensive end Maurice Jackson recovered the ball and ran it 29 yards for the touchdown and the victory.
The Richmond Spiders looked to take home the Capital Cup and end the season with a win against rival William & Mary Saturday afternoon.
The Richmond Spiders lost to the Stony Brook Seawolves despite a comeback effort late in the fourth quarter.
