Storylines:
For the second consecutive spring semester, Richmond's football team is bringing in a transfer quarterback from the University of Virginia.
The Richmond men's soccer program played its final game on Friday, as it was announced earlier this year that it would be cut, along with men's track and field, in favor of adding a men's lacrosse program. The team played to 3-3 tie with nationally-ranked VCU. Senior goalkeeper Chris Grover led the way for the Spiders with 11 saves, while Nick Butler, Oliver Murphy and Mannaan Umar scored a goal each.
It definitely isn't real yet, Zac Brown, a goalkeeper for the men's varsity soccer team said at the last soccer game for the university.
The absence of University of Richmond President Edward Ayers and Athletic Director Jim Miller at the game was spineless and pathetic, said the angry father of one of the players of the men's soccer team. He refused to give his name to The Collegian in order to protect his son's reputation.
The men's track and field and men's soccer teams were officially cut in favor of men's lacrosse, which moves up to varsity from varsity club level.
Richmond football used an explosive third quarter, in which the Spiders scored four touchdowns, to cruise past VMI in Lexington, Va., on Saturday. It was Richmond's second consecutive victory, giving the team momentum as they prepare to enter CAA conference play next week when they head to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia State University.
