Richmond quarterback Kyle Lauletta threw the ball wherever he wanted Friday night. Sometimes he picked CAA first-teamer Reggie Diggs, whose height and jumping ability beckon Lauletta to throw the ball up. Other times he chose CAA first-teamer Brian Brown, whose ability to adjust to deep passes helped him on multiple occasions. Most of the time, though, it was CAA first-teamer Jacobi Green, who caught one touchdown pass and ran for three others. How do you stop the Spiders with all those weapons?

The Tribe's Steve Cluley looked left, hesitated, then threw up a low, hard pass. David Herlocker tipped it. David Jones intercepted it in the back of the endzone with 104 yards between him and the opposite goal line.

The night before he died, Richmond senior Kurt Schmitz left his home in Haskell, New Jersey, to return to Richmond around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 29, 2014. He called his mother, Yvonne Schmitz, at 3:30 a.m. to tell her he had made it back.

In a game decided by one point, it was Peter Yoder's leg that made the difference.

Meaghan Carrigan sat on her couch, crutches by her side, her right leg free to move and left leg locked in extension by an intimidating black brace. A black pouch hung by her side, necessary to support an antibacterial IV that was hidden by a sweater but ran from the middle of her arm to her Superior Vena Cava, which lies directly above her heart. She was as comfortable as someone could be less than one week removed from knee surgery, especially considering the absolute imprisonment that her left leg was under as it rested on her nearby coffee table. It was obvious by her slouched, comfortable posture and the surrounding pillows and blankets that she had become acquainted with the couch over the previous weeks. Her laptop sat open next to her, Netflix asking if she was still watching.

In honor of David Jones intercepting four passes and recovering a fumble in Richmond's homecoming game yesterday, I decided to start this story with the words of my favorite NBA announcer, Mark Jackson.

The Richmond Spiders made decisions and set goals before Saturday's game against Elon. They wanted to run the ball. Seth Fisher and Jacobi Green both wanted to run for 100 yards. Richmond wanted to dominate Mike Ditka style--with a powerful, authoritative run game and a disruptive, controlling defense.
(10/10/15 7:24pm)
Richmond wins at home against Elon, 27-14. The Spiders were powerful in the run game but did not find the endzone as many times as they probably should have. Nevertheless, Richmond moves to 4-1 and will travel to Rhode Island next weekend.

If you spend any significant amount of time around the University of Richmond, you will learn about the parking guy. You probably won’t learn that his name is Bill Rawluk, but you’ll learn that he rides around in a red smart car. You probably won’t hear that he’s a nice guy, but instead that he’s everywhere at once, preying on illegally parked cars. “But I just needed to grab a book, I was only gone for five minutes.” He doesn’t care, he’s writing the ticket regardless… Right?
