Ama Ansah, sophomore, is a site coordinator for Trojan Brand Condoms at University of Richmond, and has been distributed 500 condoms to students throughout the year at fraternity lodge parties and in Tyler Haynes Commons as part of Trojan's Great Condom Campaign. The campaign is designed to encourage safe sex by having students pass out condoms to their peers in a variety of ways.

For the past eight years, the Center for Civic Engagement and Office of the Chaplaincy have been partnering to organize an hour-and-a-half poverty simulation for students to better understand what it's like to live in poverty. This year, some professors expressed concern that the simulation might not be sending the right message to University of Richmond's campus.

Junior Sarah Steppacher started working at the Youth Life Foundation with a second-grade girl at the beginning of her sophomore year. Now, her mentee is so attached to her that when other children ask Steppacher to be their mentor for the day, the girl firmly stakes her claim, saying, "But, she's my mentor."

When freshman Jackie Arnold walked into her room in Moore Hall last October and saw a small brown animal on her floor, she thought it was a mouse. But when she got closer, it hissed at her. Arnold's room was home to a bat.

IPhone applications such as WhatsApp and Viber have made home only a few clicks away, but some students have found communication detracts from the abroad immersion experience.

"Music, as an art, has an importance that can never be overstated," Peter Guralnick said in his lecture on the work of music producer Sam Phillips. Guralnick, a biographer and music historian, spoke to a group of approximately 275 students, faculty and community members Tuesday night. Guralnick's lecture was the first in the Jepson Leadership Forum series.

Approximately 75 students, faculty and staff gathered on Thursday night in the Keller Hall Reception Room to view a screening of "The Laramie Project." The movie is based on the play of the same name, which is the 2013-2014 selection for the One Book, One Richmond program.
