Everyone in the world is connected by the desire to be happy. There are thousands of articles out there on how to achieve and preserve happiness, yet people are still seeking desperately that coveted secret to contentment. I talked about this in an article that I wrote last year. Unfortunately, I still don't have the answer. I have, however, compiled a list of five simple things that seem to consistently bring people joy, no matter who they are.

I wrote what was supposed to be my last article last week. Upon reflection, yes, there are a lot more things that I could and should have written about, and I feel sincere regret for being unable to do so. There is one issue, though, that I cannot leave unaddressed without destroying my conscience -- it is an issue that was hugely controversial two years ago, blew up into a debate, tilted to one side as one half of the debate grew increasingly intimidated and subsequently disappeared to the point of nonexistence for students admitted post-2008.

The Octaves, Richmond's only men's a cappella group, performed their 17th annual Spring Fever concert last Saturday in Camp Concert Hall. Twenty-five alumni members accompanied the 14 current members in celebration of its twentieth anniversary of the group. Soloists included Eric Rudofker, Jared Feinman, Jackson Taylor, Sean Brewer, Sam Raab, Chris Dolci and Jack Shaw.

My mom recently went to see the new documentary film, "Race to Nowhere." She has been running around recommending it to everyone, in part because she is a teacher at a middle school, but mostly because, in her own words: "I watched it and just kept thinking to myself, 'This is about my children. The second "Stepping 101: Hollywood Nights" competition, hosted by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. at Millhiser Gym on November 12, 2010, featured the University of Richmond's six Panhellenic sororities: Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi. They competed for a $700 prize, which was won by Delta Delta Delta.
