Students and faculty gathered on Wednesday in the Cannon Memorial Chapel to mark one year since the death of 33 people at Virginia Tech with words of reflection from President Edward Ayers, Acting Chaplain Kate O'Dwyer-Randall and Matthew White of the Office of the Chaplaincy.
Absent were the celebratory Christmas carols, the brightly ringing bells, the jubilant and joyous greetings of a traditional Christmas service in Cannon Memorial Chapel.
By 7 p.m. Tuesday, pews were filled, leaving only standing room for the 7:30 p.m. vigil for Virginia Tech alumni in the Cannon Memorial Chapel.
