3-4 - Virginia Commonwealth University is 3-4 on the road in conference play, and has lost three of its last four road games. Additionally, Richmond has beaten VCU in the last two games played at the Robins Center. Tonight's game is not surprisingly sold out, but VCU will have their fair share of fans. The new Robins Center has been notoriously loud all season - St. Joseph's coach Phil Martelli even questioned whether Richmond had amplified the crowd noise. It will be interesting to see how many VCU fans get into the Robins Center, and if they can nullify Richmond's home-court advantage.

Coming off a nail-biting loss earlier in the season to the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams, the women's basketball team looked to get back in the win column in Atlantic 10 play. The Spiders defeated the Rams 73-60 Wednesday night, with all five starters in double figures.

The Connecting Women of Color Conference, held Friday, Feb. 21 at the Jepson Alumni Center, served as an open platform for discussion among undergraduate women of color through a keynote speaker and optional breakout sessions. The theme was Empowerment and Improvement: Self, Wealth and Health, a term coined by Charm Bullard, associate dean of Westhampton College, to focus on meaningful and significant issues affecting women of color.

Tuesday night, the women's basketball team outlasted the Fordham University Rams in a double overtime thriller, winning 78-77 on a game-winning shot by freshman guard Janelle Hubbard. The Spiders rebounded after dropping their first game against Fordham back in January. Hubbard and senior guard Kristina King combined for a total of 58 points.

The University of Richmond women's basketball team took on the Duquesne Dukes looking for their third consecutive victory against the Dukes, but fell short 55-45, Saturday night. Both the Spiders and Dukes were coming off wins Wednesday and wanted to extend that fortune.

The University of Richmond women's basketball team (4-5) beat University of North Carolina-Wilmington (1-8) Saturday with a final score of 64-49. The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks never got ahead of the Spiders, and shot 30 percent from the field compared to the Spiders' 49 percent.

The University of Richmond women's basketball team came up short against the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers, 53-49, Sunday in the team's first game in the recently renovated Robins Center. Richmond freshman Olivia Healy was superb, but the Blazers (2-2) were too much for the Spiders (1-2) in the end.

The gubernatorial election in Virginia has been a notably nasty race, especially with regard to the personal views of the candidates on access to abortion and contraception. As young women living in Virginia who inhabit opposite ends of the political spectrum, we have found ourselves equally disgusted with the representation of "women's issues" on all sides.

Junior Drika Bianchin, midfielder for the University of Richmond women's soccer team, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in less than two years. Bianchin, a native of Brazil, is recovering from surgery and said she hoped to return to the team this spring.
