Members discuss projects on campus

Collegian Reporter

This week's Richmond College Student Government Association meeting commenced with announcements from several guest speakers, beginning with a notice from Sigma Alpha Epsilon President Mike Fredrickson. The fraternity will host a speaker who will talk about DUIs and his own experience of drinking and driving. The presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Jepson Alumni Center, when Fredrickson will talk to students about the dangers of drinking behind the wheel.

Junior Rasheed Nazeri discussed the importance of getting the word out about voter registration. Students who have yet to register can still do so in the Tyler Haynes Commons until Oct. 6.

Representing Trick or Treat Street, or TOTS, Chris Lucas asked for help with the October event, which brings in roughly 1,200 off-campus children and parents to trick-or-treat on fraternity row. They hope to provide pumpkin painting, a DJ, moon bounces, haunted houses and several other fun activities for the children. The proceeds will go to benefit a local Richmond boy in need of a liver transplant.

Lucas also announced new revisions to the Judicial Council Handbook and asked for a vote of support for the Judicial Council's new members.

There is mandatory diversity training for all freshman members of the RCSGA this Saturday from 1-3 p.m. During the training, new senators will learn about what they can do to encourage and support diversity on campus.

After gaining support from the deans of both colleges, RCSGA members will continue to pursue their goal of adding printers to the Lakeview and Gray Court dorms for students to use.

All freshmen senators are required to attend the meeting with the Westhampton College Student Government Association at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays to discuss plans and preparations for Homecoming.

There is also a project in progress for RCSGA members to team with WCGA members to put bins around campus to collect soda can tabs in support of the Ronald McDonald House.

Richmond College Dean Joseph Boehman declared a meeting Oct. 1 in the Tyler Haynes Commons to discuss plans and propositions regarding renovations to the Commons. The meeting will involve both the RCSGA and WGCA.
