Letter: Spiders for Life

What is Spiders for Life? The club has been "on the books" for quite a while, but in recent years it has faded away almost entirely. Until now, that is.

Spiders for Life is a pro-life group devoted to promoting a campus dialogue about issues relating to the nature of life. When does it begin? When does it really end? How can we define "life" and do we have an obligation to care about these definitions? I have my own answers to these questions, of course, but my primary interest is in encouraging my peers to figure out what they think about these same issues and to make their decisions based on facts, not assumptions. Much of Spiders for Life's mission is, "to educate through the presentation of detailed and factual information about fetal development, abortion, alternatives to abortion, infanticide, and related issues upon which individuals and the general public may make informed decisions." (this is taken from the Spiders for Life mission statement.)

We are not a partisan organization, and the kind of debate that we are seeking to encourage is not a vitriolic one, but an honest, compassionate dialogue about all issues relating to definitions of life and what our moral obligations might be to the living. We are excited about igniting public discussion, and if you are interested in getting involved with Spiders for Life, you can contact me. I'd love to hear from you.
