-Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, who was drafted fifth overall during this year's NBA Draft, has agreed to a contract with a Spanish club team and will not play for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. ... As a result, Rubio, 19, will be playing in beautiful Barcelona, Spain instead of dreary Minneapolis, Minn. Tough luck.

-The Cincinnati Bengals signed rookie offensive lineman Andre Smith to a contract this week after a 30 day holdout. Smith then broke his foot on Tuesday and will be out until at least Week Two of the season. ... The Bengals must be wondering where Ashton Kutcher and his Punk'd crew are hiding.

-Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is reportedly interested in the Massachusetts Senate seat that has opened after the death of Ted Kennedy. ... Hey, Curt, I'm interested in taking over as the new Batman, but sometimes you just have to let dreams be dreams.

-Third baseman Aaron Boone rejoined the Houston Astros on Tuesday, only five months after open-heart surgery. ... Boone's career will always be defined by his pinch hit home run during the 11th inning of Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, which lifted the Yankees over the Red Sox and into the World Series, but this comeback is just as remarkable.
