Seven different Spiders score as Richmond wins 49-10

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The University of Richmond football team forced three turnovers on Georgetown's first three possessions on its way to a 49-10 win at Multi-Sport Field.

The Spiders, coming off of their first loss in more than a year, dominated the Hoyas from the outset. At the end of the first quarter, Richmond already held a 21-0 lead.

"It's always great to have a short field and get out to an early lead," senior offensive lineman Matt McCracken said. "[This win] gets the bad taste out of our mouths from last weekend."

Juniors Ben Keating and Tyler Kirchoff scored the first two touchdowns for the Spiders on short runs. Junior wide receiver Donte Boston caught a 15-yard pass from senior quarterback Eric Ward for the third score. The Spiders led 28-10 at halftime.

"We looked to crank up the running game today and we did," McCracken said.

Richmond started the second half in a flash, when sophomore Tremayne Graham returned the opening kick of the third quarter 94 yards for a touchdown.

After that, Richmond head coach Mike London removed many offensive starters and backup quarterback John Laub took over for Ward.

"It was beneficial to see a lot of players play," London said. "It's good to see guys get into the game that practice and contribute."

Laub completed his first six pass attempts and finished 9 for 15 passing for 122 yards and one interception. He also rushed for his first career touchdown during the third quarter.

Every Richmond player who made the trip and was not redshirting this season or recovering from an injury appeared at some point during the game.

Ward only played the first half and finished with 85 yards passing and two touchdowns. Boston finished with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown.
