Richmond senior Ryan Butler hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 26 seconds left during the game as Richmond defeated George Washington University, 62-57, on Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Kevin Anderson led the Spiders with 21 points, 15 of which were scored during the second half. His two free-throws with one second remaining during the game put away the Colonials.
Both teams were plagued by foul trouble all game. The referees called a total of 52 personal fouls, split evenly between the teams, but only one player -- GW freshman David Pellorn -- fouled out of the game.
Richmond junior Justin Harper scored 14 points to go along with his four rebounds. Only four of his points came after halftime.
Richmond avoided back-to-back losses with the win and improved to 15-6 and 4-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
The Spiders have a week off before hosting Saint Louis University at 2 p.m. on Jan. 30 for the second meeting between the teams this year. The Bilikens defeated the Spiders 63-58 on Jan. 9 at Saint Louis.
