• Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger got dropped from more than just the sexual assault charges from a Georgia college student. A local company that markets food products endorsed by local sports stars dropped Big Ben from its beef jerky sponsorship. As Uncle Frank from "Home Alone" would say, "Look what you did, you little jerk."
• Tuesday night's return of Fox's hit show, "Glee," drew 13.6 million viewers, according to USA Today. Compared to the 2009 World Series' 19.4 million viewers, "Glee" combined musical basketball in Tuesday's episode and still grabbed 13.6 million viewers, even without the impending Madonna and Lady Gaga episodes. "Don't Stop Believin'" in the magic of musical television.
• Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz's slugging slump continued into this season as he recorded only three hits during his first 22 at bats. With Ortiz missing on 44 percent of his swings this season, Boston officials have decided to install several windmills on the Green Monster. Then Ortiz's $13 million salary will at least put a dent in Fenway Park's energy bill.
• It's NHL playoff time again and you know what that means: Playoff beards! Don't worry, Sidney Crosby, some people are just late bloomers.
• The Collegian mourns the sudden death of Richmond graduate and long-time statistician Leonard Alley. Alley was a former member of the UR Sports Information Department and continued to assist at Spider football and men's basketball home games for 30 years. He was in the press box keeping statistics at UR Stadium during Saturday's spring game. Alley was as much a part of Richmond athletics as anyone and he will be missed.
