Spiders win NCAA play-in game, defeat Cal, 2-0

The University of Richmond field hockey team is headed to its first NCAA tournament since 2009 thanks to its victory over University of California at Berkeley, 2-0, on Tuesday in Berkeley, Calif.

Richmond senior forward Katelin Peterson, an Escondido, Calif., native, scored both goals for the Spiders. The first came off an assist from junior Jackie Gyger in the first half, and the second came off an assist from sophomore Christina Amorose in the second half.

Next up for the Spiders is the first round of the tournament versus Syracuse University at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in Maryland. Syracuse is coached by former Richmond coach Ange Bradley.
