Richmond law professor dies from natural causes

University of Richmond School of Law Professor John F. Carroll died Thursday afternoon from "natural causes," according to Linda Evans, assistant director of media relations at Richmond.

Carroll was an assistant clinical professor of law and the director of the intellectual property and transactional law clinic. He was also a graduate of Richmond's School of Law, earning his Juris Doctor (graduate degree in law) in 1995.

According to an email sent out by the university Saturday morning, formal and informal gatherings took place on campus Friday to reflect on the loss, and the University of Richmond flag will fly at half-staff through Monday in his honor.

The email also stated that Carroll's family will receive visitors at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Swift Creek Baptist Church in Midlothian, Va., while the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the church.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
