University of Richmond Swimming and Diving team won its 11th conference title in 12 years at the A-10 Championships this weekend in Geneva, Ohio.
The meet earned the Spiders its third consecutive A-10 championship, sophomore swimmer Anna Fetter said.
The Spiders swept all five relays and earned 12 top finishes throughout the weekend, finishing with 737 points. The University of Massachusetts team finished in second with 594 points, and Fordham University's team placed third with 473.
Richmond's team managed to win the title despite several obstacles, including a change in venue, flight delays and a stomach bug that infected certain team members, coach Matt Barany said.
"In order to win this meet, the team had to work together," Barany said. "We needed contributions from everyone - and we got those."
The top scorers at the meet included the 400-meter freestyle relay gold-medalists junior Mali Kobelja, freshman Natalya Ares, freshman Kelley Yang and senior Lauren Hines, Fetter said.
"Natalya and Kelley are both freshmen, so it was really great to see them step up and win their races," Fetter said.
Kobelja was also named the Most Outstanding Performer for the second consecutive year, after winning all the races she entered, according to the Richmond athletics website.
The divers will advance to the NCAA Zone Diving Qualifier in Piscataway, N.J., on March 15.
