Rapid Recap: Richmond 77 - Saint Joseph's 62

Final Score: Richmond 77 - Massachusetts 62

What Happened: Richmond responded to the UMass win with one of its best showings of the season, as it comfortably beat St. Joes, 77-62. Richmond has struggled from three-point range all season, but today it shot 10-22 from long range. Kendall Anthony led the Spiders with 19 points, and Trey Davis, Cedrick Lindsay, Deion Taylor and Terry Allen scored in double figures. Halil Kanacevic carried St. Joe's with his 21 points and 19 rebounds. Richmond led, 35-28, at the half in large part because of its three-point shooting. Richmond shot 7-14 from long range in the first half, and St. Joe's shot 1-7 from three. The Hawks, however, found success in the paint. Kanacevic, who averages 10 points and eight rebounds, had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Richmond played much of the first half without Alonzo Nelson-Ododa, who had three fouls. Richmond opened the half on an 11-2 run, extending its lead to 16. The Spiders rarely let the Hawks come within 10 points, and whenever St. Joe's seemed to get some momentum, Richmond had an answer.

Spider Positives: Richmond's three-point shooting may have cost the Spiders a couple games this season, but today its three-point shooting was a big reason why the Spiders were able to win. It wasn't just one hot shooter either, as six Spiders made at least one 3-pointer today. St. Joe's, conversely, shot 6-22 from three. As a whole, Richmond's offense was the most balanced it has been all season with five players scoring in double figures. Kanacevic hurt the Spiders, but Richmond was able to hold Langston Galloway to 13 points. Galloway, who averages 17.7 points per game, shot 5-17 from the field. Trey Davis was one of the guys who helped slow down Galloway. Davis finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and he played great defense as he typically does.

Spider Negatives: St. Joe's controlled the paint for most of the game. The Hawks outscored the Spiders, 38-22, in the paint and out-rebounded them, 44-35. Kanacevic singlehandedly dominated the Spiders forwards. Nelson-Ododa typically leads Richmond's interior defense, but today, due to foul trouble, Kanacevic dominated him.

Up Next: Richmond will play at No. 19 St. Louis, which has won 12-straight games, on Wednesday.
