Seven back-to-school thoughts every Richmond student has

The University of Richmond campus during the summertime.

With the start of another school year only a couple days away, anticipation is starting to set into every new and returning Spider.  Summer vacation was surely filled with great memories, valuable work experiences, family time or much-needed relaxation, but the point of summer has come when we’re eager to get back to school. With students beginning to move in this week and the excitement levels getting higher, here are a few thoughts that every Spider has after getting back to school:

How did I go so long without seeing my friends? Going from dorm life to home was nice for a while. Not having to share a room or live in a hall with loud neighbors definitely had its perks, but you’ll realize how much you missed having your best friends only a few doors away.

It’s pretty nice not having parents around 24/7. Don’t get me wrong, I love my parents. But the freedom that comes with being away at school is great. No longer do they constantly have to know where we are, who we’re with, what we’re doing or when we’ll be home.

Being around like-minded people is really motivating. Whether you’re in a sorority, fraternity, student organization or job, being constantly surrounded by motivated, like-minded people is really inspiring. It creates an atmosphere that promotes creativity and productivity and makes learning so much more fun!

Were textbooks always this expensive? A new semester means a new course list calling for different required readings. Even with a few semesters under my belt, I’m always so shocked by the prices of textbooks!

Our campus is truly so beautiful. After living on campus for a few months, we get used to seeing the same buildings every day. Coming back to school after a long summer always reminds us how lucky we are to be living on such a beautiful campus.

Even though summer was a nice break, we’re so glad for school to start! We cherished our time at home or at the beach but we’re so ready to get back into the swing of things. Despite the stress and workload that the semester brings, we’re so excited to be back at the school we love with the people we love even more.
