April 16: Loss 0-4 vs. VCU
The Spiders lost three singles points and one doubles point to VCU, their record falling to 7-9 (2-3 in A-10 play) for the season. First-year Helene Heiberg was tied 6-6 in the first set when the match was completed.
April 16: Loss 10-11 at VMI
The Spiders filled up the scoreboard with 10 runs, but lost in the 11th inning to VMI, 11-10. Sophomore Jordan Schulefand and senior Kyle Schmidt each hit a home run, while redshirt junior Anthony Forte collected two doubles on his way to a 3-for-4 day at the plate. First-year pitcher Jacob Marcus pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three.
April 20: Doubleheader; Win 8-5 vs. VCU and Loss 3-16 vs. VCU
The team played a doubleheader on April 20, winning the first game 8-5 behind Schmidt’s walk-off three-run home run, and losing the second game 16-3. Redshirt sophomore Tim Miller pitched six solid innings in game one, striking out six batters and allowing just two earned runs. The Spiders dropped the second game of the day, managing just three runs behind home runs from Schmidt and Forte.
April 21: Win 5-4 vs. VCU
Richmond won the series against their cross-town rival in dramatic fashion, winning 5-4 in 11 innings. First-year Mark Ready provided the game-winning hit with a bases-loaded single in the 11th inning, one of his three hits of the day. Forte hit a home run and collected two RBIs to propel the offense. First-year Brian Craven pitched 2.1 shutout innings, striking out two and allowing just two baserunners.
April 18: Win 7-0 vs. Southern Virginia and Win 7-0 vs. Virginia Wesleyan
Richmond handily defeated Southern Virginia 7-0 at the Westhampton Tennis Courts, as senior Brice Polender and first-year Campbell Erwin dropped just one set each.
The Spiders closed out their season with a 7-0 win against Virginia Wesleyan in the second half of their doubleheader on April 18. Polender did not drop a single set in his singles match, while junior Klein Evans and Erwin also did not drop a set in their doubles match.
April 19: Win 21-11 vs. Saint Joseph’s
With 11 goals in the first half and 10 in the second half, Richmond’s offensive onslaught carried the team to a 21-11 win over Saint Joseph’s on Senior Day at Robins Stadium. The Spiders recorded a program-record 15 assists on the day, and finished the game on a 6-1 run in the last 12 1/2 minutes.
April 19: Duke Invitational, Durham, North Carolina
First-year Rachel Helbling finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.62 seconds, just .35 seconds behind first place. Redshirt senior Amanda Corbosiero finished third in the 1500-meter dash with a time of 4:25.14. The relay team of junior Maria Acosta, sophomore Brooke Fazio, first-year Tamar Accius, and Helbling won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:43.56.
April 18-19: Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship
The Spiders finished third in a six-team field, with a total score of +51. Senior Sophie DiPetrillo shot a tournament-best 71 in round one, and finished tied for fourth overall with a score of +12. Senior Annie Collom and sophomore Lizzie Reedy also had solid tournaments, both finishing tied for sixth overall with scores of +12.
April 20: Win 15-9 vs. Mercer
The Spiders secured a spot in the Southern Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament with a convincing 15-9 win while honoring the team’s 12 seniors on senior day. Senior Teddy Hatfield led the offense with four goals and three assists, while eight other players added at least one point. Redshirt sophomore Jack Rusbuldt played a solid game in goal, playing nearly 40 minutes and giving up just one goal while adding six saves. The win improved the team’s conference play record to 5-1 and kept the Spiders at the top of the Southern Conference standings.
