Happy Monday, Spiders! I hope your weekend was full of family fun. Looking ahead, there are plenty of opportunities to eat well, support great causes, and get creative outdoors. Here are some of my top picks:

State Fair of Virginia

The State Fair of Virginia is back at Meadow Event Park, and there is plenty to see and do. From the pro rodeo and mounted shooting to giant pumpkin and vegetable competitions, alongside rides, concerts and classic fair food, there is something for everyone. Check out the dates for this week’s events here!

Chipotle fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity

This Tuesday, Sept. 30, grab dinner at Chipotle with friends and support the UR Habitat for Humanity chapter’s Project Playhouse fundraiser. Head to the Chipotle on 7000 Forest Ave. between 5–9 p.m., and use the word “Habitat” at checkout – Chipotle will donate 25% of proceeds! You can learn more here!

Gnocchi cooking basics at the Demonstration Kitchen

If you’re looking to sharpen your kitchen skills, consider registering for one of the many cooking basics classes with UR Demonstration Kitchen. This week, they’re making a quick, sheet-pan gnocchi recipe and a fresh salad. You can register here for sessions on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 6–7 p.m. or Friday, Oct. 3, from 12–1 p.m.

Silent Sky at the Modlin Center for the Arts

This week, performances of Silent Sky begin on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alice Jepson Theatre. This play by Lauren Gunderson tells the story of astronomer Henriette Leavitt and her groundbreaking discoveries in the early 20th century. Tickets are sold out, but you can still join the rush line for a chance to snag a seat!
