Carr defeats Prado in Richmond race

The Richmond Capital News Service projects that incumbent Democrat Del. Betsy Carr (D-Richmond) will defeat Republican Rich Prado for the Virginia House of Delegates 78th District seat.

House District 78 has historically been a Democratic stronghold, with Kamala Harris winning the district by more than 75% in the 2024 U.S. Presidential election.

Carr’s campaign has been running on increasing access to all types of healthcare.

According to her campaign website, “Betsy knows that every Virginian must have access to affordable quality health care and to reproductive health care. She is proud to have a 100% pro-choice track record in the legislature.”

Carr’s campaign says she has advocated for equality in public education, and remedying environmental problems.

Carr held a substantial fundraising lead over her opponent, raising 60 times more than her opponent. Rich Prado raised $5,462 through donations while Betsy Carr raised a comparatively large $340,056.
