Happy Monday Spiders! Can you believe we’re more than halfway through the Fall semester? Time is racing by – and it’s not the only thing that’s racing! The Richmond Marathon is this weekend so make sure you show out to support UR and Richmond runners! This week is full of even more fun, from music recitals to magic shows.

Free live music performances on campus – Fall semester Mini Recital

Support UR music students tonight at the Mini Recital in Perkinson Recital Hall! Music students have been practicing all semester and tonight they will share and perform the pieces they’ve been working on. This event is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and is free with no registration required.

Race Day in Richmond — America’s Friendliest Marathon

Come support Richmond runners at America’s Friendliest Marathon on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 7 a.m. to noon. Spirit groups and community members will cheer on runners of the Allianz Marathon, CarMax Half Marathon and VCU Health 8k races as they run through the city and cross the finish line at 5th & Tredegar Street at Brown’s Island. At the end of the races, join the CoStar Group post race party with food trucks, drinks and live music at the Canal Walk. If you don’t plan on running or supporting runners, do plan on closed streets Saturday morning! You can learn more about the race – and which streets to avoid! – here

Personal tour of Dusk of Dawn exhibition

Get an insider look at Cauleen Smith: Dusk of Dawn. Student-led tours guide you through the multimedia installation that explores the collapse of Richmond’s Confederate monument legacy. Tours are free and open to all. They run from Nov. 12 to Nov. 19 beginning each day at 4. You can learn more about the tours here, and find details about Smith’s exhibition here

Fall Market

Benchtop Brewing Company and Petty Markets are hosting a Fall Market on Saturday, Nov. 15, from noon to 5 p.m. Whether you’re looking for some local creations for holiday gifts or you want to try Benchtop brews and non-alcoholic drinks, swing by the Benchtop Brewing Co. on Hull Street to celebrate the season. You can learn more here

Mesmerized: An Immersive Experiment in Science & Magic

Science or the supernatural? Cognitive scientist Anthony Barnhart and mind reader Joe Diamond will explore how 19-th century scientists blurred the lines between science and magic in a live performance with interactive experiments and psychological illusions in Queally Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 5:00 5 p.m. See here to check it out.
