Sophomore kicker Wil Kamin made a 20-yard field goal in overtime to give the Spiders a 13-10 win and keep their playoff hopes alive. Richmond improved to 5-4 on the season and 10-1 all time in overtime games. One of those wins came earlier this season, with a 27-21 victory over Elon in the Robins Stadium opener.

As Andrew Benford climbed the final hill of the Schenley Park course in Pittsburgh, Pa., Saturday and honed in on the defending champion of the race, his sights were equally set on both individual and team Atlantic 10 Conference titles. Having raced there as a freshman with teammates Matt Llano and Jon Wilson, he knew exactly what to expect during the race.

The University of Richmond defeated Towson University 28-6 on Saturday in the first Homecoming game played at Robins Stadium. The Spiders jumped on top in the first quarter with a six-yard ran by Jovan Smith with 6:10 remaining and never looked back. Richmond's defense forced two turnovers in the quarter and held Towson scoreless until 1:58 left in the third quarter.

Senior tailback Tyler Kirchoff set career highs with 24 rushing attempts, 129 yards and four touchdowns to lead Richmond over Coastal Carolina University, 41-19, Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium. Three late interceptions from the Richmond defense sealed the game for the Spiders. Richmond improved to 2-2 on the year.

In the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams, the University of Delaware Blue Hens used their overwhelming air attack, led by quarterback Pat Devlin's 240 passing yards to defeat the University of Richmond Spiders, 34-13, at Robins Stadium Saturday evening.

As the sun beats down on the turf field on a late September afternoon, the University of Richmond field hockey team hustles to follow head coach Gina Lucido's instructions. The players reposition goals and cones to transition from a drill exercise to a four-versus-three scrimmage, moving quietly and with purpose. Without hesitation, they begin sprinting again and weaving between one another seamlessly as they advance toward the goal, looking every bit like a team prepared to defend its Atlantic 10 Conference championship title.

Last week, students crowded the University of Richmond Forum, throwing balls to each other, swinging racquets and generally having a good time. The Forum was the hot-spot for the second-annual Sport Club Rush, which was held Thursday, Sept. 2. Students had the opportunity to sign up for clubs, ask questions, get practice and competition schedules and check out all the events going on with different clubs this semester.

The defense won the annual spring football game, 54-23, Saturday afternoon. Special rules were in place that allowed the defense to score one point for a forced punt, a tackle for a loss or a broken-up pass; two points for a fourth-down stop, a sack or a two-point conversion stop; three points for a forced missed field goal, a forced three-and-out or a takeaway; and six points for scoring a touchdown. The scoring for offense was the same as a normal game, but it received one point for every first down.
