While spending six months in a foreign country without the radio blasting out the latest pop hits and Bruno Mars-driven rap songs, I had to start listening to the local music to get some fresh songs to ride the tube with. Because I was in England, I already knew a fair amount of bands such as Coldplay and Mumford and Sons from their breakout hits in America. It was the tips from my flatmates that allowed me to bring back my iPod filled with new songs and artists who I had never heard of, and who are frankly better than most of the stuff that goes mainstream here. I listen to every type of music, but I am going to go ahead and throw out a few artists and songs that you may never have heard of, in hopes of getting some new fans for the bands.
I logged onto Facebook and in the upper left corner were an astounding 35 friend requests. After breaking for dinner and returning a couple of hours later, I had about 100 more.

As seniors, my friends and I were upset that we faced the prospect of paying $2,295 a month between four people to live in an apartment that would have serious problems passing modern building codes. Instead of getting colossally ripped off by the university, the fiscally savvy among us opted to move off campus. We have since come to realize how much better off (as well as how much more smug) we really are.
We laugh at Snooki and her Jersey Shore posse as they dump three pounds of bronzer on their faces every time they go out. But are we laughing in disgust, or from experience? Honestly, I don't think these girls are much different from many today who would rather die than go pale. So, have your New Year's resolutions once again found you where they met you in previous years? That is, right there stuck only in the New Year? If you are like most of us, your resolutions fall short of the term. If you find that your resolutions dissolve into something you must constantly re-visit or resolve every year, then either you are insane or, more likely, just human and maybe a bit uninspired. Goals can be fitness or health related, and they may also be lifestyle related. Goals are meant to improve you. This year, work on creating strategic and goal-oriented resolutions that stick and that are resolved by the year's end. Sure, that is much easier said than done, but here are some ways to help:

Ever since I was accused of spreading racist ideology by a University of Richmond professor because I had asked whether a certain U.S. president was racist, I feel much freer to express my opinion. You can tell a lot about people by their response to an unorthodox question. When the answer is nothing short of a personal accusation, and the responder happens to be a University of Richmond professor or an administrator, you begin thinking, "OK, maybe I am being indoctrinated with their own beliefs instead of being taught to judge for myself."
God knows why I went to Argentina. Seriously, only he knows. All I know is this: 10 months ago, I arrived in Buenos Aires, the hottest, biggest city I've ever been in, with the mission to see the world and learn Spanish. I stayed with an orientation group in a downtown hotel for two days (imagine Manhattan, but narrow, trash-filled streets), and thought the rest of my experience would be as big and bombastic as those first couple of days.
