Richmond picked up a 23-21 upset win over Duke University Saturday night at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C. Interim coach Wayne Lineburg picked up his first career win after taking over the position just 10 days before the start of the season. Richmond has now won the past three times it has traveled to Wallace Wade Stadium.
Hurricane Irene, a Category 1 storm, hit the University of Richmond Saturday afternoon just four days after a magnitude-5.8 earthquake. The storm forced the school to shut down at 2 p.m. and brought down trees and power lines. The school announced Sunday that it would have a normal schedule on Monday.
Three freshmen stand on one knee and yell out things they all think they will have in common. "PS2," one says. They get ready, jump up in unison and shout like the surrounding groups but no, one person likes the X-Box gaming system more.
The Class of 2015 moved into their dormitories for the first time Wednesday. The Collegian caught up with some freshman and orientation advisers during move-in day.
The university's 181st Commencement was held at the Robins Center Sunday. Curtis Carlson, CEO of SRI International and one of the pioneers of HD television, delivered the commencement address and senior Ali Amaral was selected to be the student speaker.
Graduation ceremonies started Friday night with the Senior Celebration and culminated in the traditional Candlelight Ceremony Saturday night. All of the events occurred in preparation for the graduation ceremony which will start at 2 p.m. Sunday.
University of Richmond cornerback Justin Rogers was taken in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills in the 2011 NFL Draft Saturday. Rogers, who was the 206th overall pick, is the fourth Richmond player to be taken by Buffalo and the first since fellow defensive back Brian Jordan was selected in 1989. The Bills selected two other defensive backs this year in Aaron Brown from the University of Texas in the second round and safety Da'Norris Searcy from the University of North Carolina in the fourth round.

Philip's Continental Lounge, better known as Phil's among Richmond students, will be forced to relocate when its lease expires on June 30, 2011. Phil's restaurant and bar has been located at 5704 Grove Ave. in the Shops at Libbie & Grove for over 72 years. When Kyle Measell and his wife took ownership of Phil's eight years ago, they introduced Thursday night karaoke, which exploded in popularity among students. Measell said he would be sorry to make the move, but was thankful for the continued support from Richmond's student body.
Nine seniors were honored from the University of Richmond lacrosse team before its 12-6 victory Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium against Saint Joseph's University. The seniors have now tied their best start in Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 5-0 record, the same mark as their freshman year when they started conference play 5-0 before losing an overtime game to George Washington University.
In one of my classes the teacher asked us to come up with a slogan that represented our generation. The room fell silent until someone half jokingly said something about ignorance. People contributed a smattering of other ideas but the first really stuck out to me, and suddenly I started to realize: It's the sad truth.
The University of Richmond football team held its annual Spring Football Game Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium to bring an end to its spring practice. The defense won the game, 54-26, with a modified scoring system.
