The University of Richmond football team held its annual Spring Football Game Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium to bring an end to its spring practice. The defense won the game, 54-26, with a modified scoring system.

Richmond's club crew teams competed in the Occoquan Sprints Regatta in Fairfax, Va., at the Sandy Run Marina on Sunday, April 3, 2011. This was the team's second regatta of the season. On April 16, the team will compete in the Kerr Cup, in Philadelphia, Pa, the last regatta of the season. The team practices Monday through Friday at Robious Landing Park on the James River to prepare for regattas.

On April 2, 2011, 41,314 people lined up on Broad Street to start the 12th-annual 2011 Ukrop Monument Avenue 10K. The participants, some running and some walking, went on the 6.2-mile course that ended on Franklin Street. Julius Kogo, from Kenya, ran the fastest time at 29:02 and win the $2,000 prize for the fastest time.

SAN ANTONIO — The University of Kansas connected on nearly half of its three-pointers as it got by the University of Richmond, 77-57, Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio in the Sweet 16 of the 2011 NCAA tournament. The loss ends the careers of Richmond's five seniors. The three four-year seniors in that group were responsible for 91 wins and included one of the school's best players in Kevin Anderson. Richmond reached the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history after defeating No. 5 Vanderbilt University and No. 13 Morehead State University the previous weekend at Pepsi Center in Denver.

The city of Richmond hosted a pep rally for the University of Richmond Spiders and Virginia Commonwealth University Rams men's basketball teams, which have both qualified for the "Sweet 16" round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. UR president Edward Ayers, VCU president Michael Rao and Mayor Dwight Jones each spoke at the ceremony, which took place in the Turning Basin downtown.

The Octaves, Richmond's only men's a cappella group, performed their 17th annual Spring Fever concert last Saturday in Camp Concert Hall. Twenty-five alumni members accompanied the 14 current members in celebration of its twentieth anniversary of the group. Soloists included Eric Rudofker, Jared Feinman, Jackson Taylor, Sean Brewer, Sam Raab, Chris Dolci and Jack Shaw.

DENVER — After receiving a 12 seed despite winning the Atlantic 10 Conference title and automatic berth, there were questions about whether the Spiders would have made the tournament had they lost the A-10 title game. Richmond, which admittedly felt slighted by the low seeding, played like it as it defeated No. 5 Vanderbilt University in the second round and then No. 13 Morehead State University, 65-48, to get to San Antonio.

DENVER — The No. 12 seed University of Richmond upset No. 5 Vanderbilt, 69-66, Thursday afternoon at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. Senior Kevin Anderson scored nine straight points as Richmond went on a 9-0 run to turn a three-point deficit into Richmond's first lead of the game at 51-48 with 12:04 left to play in the game. "We don't want to be one-and-done," Anderson said. "We're excited for this win. We want to keep looking forward into this tournament, not just being satisfied with this win. ... We won one game, but didn't win the tournament. That's our ultimate goal."

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.— Richmond won the Atlantic 10 Conference's automatic bid by defeating the University of Dayton, 67-54, Sunday afternoon at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Richmond defeated the University of Rhode Island on Friday and upset No. 24 Temple to reach the finals. Richmond held its opponents to an average of 51 points per game and heads to the NCAA Tournament as a 12 seed. "We are at the top right now as A-10 champions but we've done something but we haven't done enough," senior Kevin Anderson said. "We are satisfied but we want some more."

The University of Richmond women's basketball team defeated St. Louis University, 68-57, at the Robins Center Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. Seniors center Crystal Goring, former player and current assistant Rebecca Kretchman, guard Kara Powell and guard Brittani Shells were honored at a pre-game ceremony. Shells became the second all-time leading scorer with 2,006 points as she scored 17 points and also broke the school's all-time steals record when she recorded two steals during the game to give her 300 career steals.

Before tip-off against St. Bonaventure University, the five seniors on the men's basketball team — Kevin Anderson, Justin Harper, Dan Geriot, Kevin Smith and Kevin Hovde — received a framed picture. With its 82-67 victory, Richmond moved to 21-7 overall and 10-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Members of the Westhampton College Class of 2012 participated in the 2011 Ring Dance ceremony Feb. 5 at the Jefferson Hotel in downtown Richmond. The event had more security than in past years in response to vandalism that occurred at last year's dance.

UR Glee Club performed "Bridge Over Troubled Water" during its debut at the Black History Month Dinner on February 1, 2011. Freshman Cristina Meehan, a co-founder of the new group, said she had envisioned a group that would incorporate a multi-dimensional experience using movements and instruments, along with singing.
