The city of Richmond hosted a pep rally for the University of Richmond Spiders and Virginia Commonwealth University Rams men's basketball teams, which have both qualified for the "Sweet 16" round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. UR president Edward Ayers, VCU president Michael Rao and Mayor Dwight Jones each spoke at the ceremony, which took place in the Turning Basin downtown.
DENVER — The No. 12 seed University of Richmond upset No. 5 Vanderbilt, 69-66, Thursday afternoon at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. Senior Kevin Anderson scored nine straight points as Richmond went on a 9-0 run to turn a three-point deficit into Richmond's first lead of the game at 51-48 with 12:04 left to play in the game. The Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils hosted the Trick or Treat Street philanthropic event Saturday at Old Fraternity Row, welcoming families from the Richmond community to campus for a day of Halloween games and activities. Proceeds were donated on behalf of 5-year-old Cole Hafer of Richmond to the Children's Organ Transplant Association. This was the third year Trick or Treat Street proceeds had been put toward Cole's liver transplant.
