Former Virginia governor and University of Richmond professor Tim Kaine told his leadership studies class in March 2011 that he would run for a Senate seat in 2012. One year later, the campaign is in full swing and so are the internships for two Richmond and one Westhampton College student.
Aaron Corp, the starting quarterback for Richmond's recent 3-8 campaign, has been invited to the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, an invitation that appeared unlikely when he suffered a season-ending knee injury during the 2010 season.
A montage of media clips flickers into focus in front of my armchair, and a matter-of-fact voice says: "There is a moral panic in America over young women's sexuality."
Allie Ware has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and endured African summer heat, but these weren't her most influential memories of her trip to Tanzania. Instead, this sophomore lacrosse player recalls small children surrounding her at the foot of the mountain, begging her for water with its Swahili translation: maji. Ware is now promoting the company she helped found this year with that name, and a mission to bring water to Africans who need it.

Everyone in the world is connected by the desire to be happy. There are thousands of articles out there on how to achieve and preserve happiness, yet people are still seeking desperately that coveted secret to contentment. I talked about this in an article that I wrote last year. Unfortunately, I still don't have the answer. I have, however, compiled a list of five simple things that seem to consistently bring people joy, no matter who they are.

Alumni donated more than $5.5 million to the university in 2011, according to annual fund statistics collected by the Office of Annual Giving. Every year, more than 350 Richmond students spend time studying abroad.
Every week students eagerly pick up The Collegian to read the "UR Busted" section, and every week someone's iPod or laptop has gone missing. Now, imagine setting down your purse or book-bag in D-hall and coming back to discover it's no longer there. Of course, you can cancel your credit card and it's a pain that you no longer have your cell phone, but can you imagine if your loaded Glock went missing too? Whoops.
On Feb. 4, members of the junior class of Westhampton College will file into the Jefferson Hotel in long, white dresses, their faces beaming. But there will be fewer faces in the crowd this year.
