I heard a while back that there was some pollution in the James River. I've heard people mention websites and groups from where and whom I can "find more information." I've heard about different science-based classrooms doing experiments and finding horrific content of all sorts mixed into the water composition.

School is now in session. To those of you who are arriving fresh from states in the North and further South, the city (and outskirts) of Richmond may seem the same as it always does. To those of us who have survived the summer heat, the school year has certainly made its mark in many noticeable ways. Parking lots are fuller, grocery stores are fuller, facilities are open later and most importantly: The Henrico police have retaken their positions at strategically located checkpoints across town.

Spring is in the air, and we at UofR know what this means: beautiful people strewn across the lawns and crowded into the gym, toning their bodies and perfecting their tans.

I remember back to the early 1990s (yes, I do - I was 4 years old and my memory was fully developed) when the inquiry as to "What's up?" stood as delicately as a tightrope walker upon the line between familiar and frequent integration into casual conversation.

I still remember one seemingly nonchalant comment made by a male high school friend one day after school when we were all sitting around playing Grand Theft Auto. He was fidgeting with the controller and someone asked what he was doing, to which he responded, "I can't find the rape button anywhere. Is it A or B?"

One very hot topic in current American discourse is the national legalization of marijuana. The fact that I find the argument about this issue absolutely absurd is a rather recurrent viewpoint among members of America's youth, but my reasoning may not be so nationally shared.

When a difficult test is coming up in a particular class, the scenario is always the same: You and your fellow classmates are speckled across various locations conducive to studying on campus, with books spread out and eyes anchored down to pages.

Not all of us are lucky enough to be enrolled in Ecology 200 for a small portion of our lives. As one of the lucky ones, I thought I'd share a few of the more interesting aspects of Charles Darwin's observations about various animal species with all those unlucky students who are missing out.

Some people are natural automobile operators. In swift arcs of the ankle, these naturals slow to barely noticeable stops without promoting even the slightest hint of jolting motion. With smooth panoramic vision, these people are constantly and acutely aware of even the smallest of insignificancies — such as squirrels, stop signs or pedestrians. With one-handed ease, they turn the car without facing oncoming traffic at the turn's completion. They drive fast. They drive fearlessly. I move aside for them as though they are all emergency vehicles.

During recent years, the University of Richmond has been quite generally referred to as endorsing a work-hard, play-hard environment. Various other referential sources reinforce this notion. A person only has to log on to any one of the various college search engines to find the descriptions of Richmond (in both review and discussion-board formats) enlightening incoming freshmen of the work-hard, play-hard motto associated with our dear campus community (including but not limited to www.talk.collegeconfidential.com or www.campex.com).

It must be aforementioned that I am a member of Greek Life. That being said, there is a problematic binary discrepancy pertaining to the distribution of wealth between sororities and fraternities on this campus.

I think we all know what I'm talking about.
