Despite a fourth-quarter comeback by James Madison, Richmond was able to hold on for the win, 35-29, on Saturday in front of a sold-out Robins Stadium. The upset of the second-ranked Dukes serves as Danny Rocco's signature win in his first season as Spiders head coach. The star of the game for UR was sophomore quarterback Michael Strauss, who threw for 4 touchdowns in his first collegiate start. He'll start the rest of the season because incumbent starter John Laub suffered a broken ankle.
Richmond football used an explosive third quarter, in which the Spiders scored four touchdowns, to cruise past VMI in Lexington, Va., on Saturday. It was Richmond's second consecutive victory, giving the team momentum as they prepare to enter CAA conference play next week when they head to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia State University.
