One can expect to see students and faculty sporting red high heels in Tyler Haynes Commons this coming week as part of the White Ribbon Campaign, an international effort of men working to end violence against women. The Richmond College Dean’s Office, in partnership with RCSGA, Residence Life and Recreation and Wellness, will host a variety of events this week as part of University of Richmond's ninth annual White Ribbon Campaign.

“Very few things are rocket science,” Shiza Shahid, co-founder and former CEO of the international non-profit Malala Fund, said to a Richmond Scholar at her lecture Sunday. “Although they seem so from a distance, if you ask the right questions and listen, you get pretty close to an answer.” Shahid’s message to Richmond students was simple: Young people can create the change they want to see in the world if they are willing to work hard for it.

As part of the initiative to bring a sixth Panhellenic sorority to campus, University of Richmond introduced the Standards of Excellence guidelines for Greek organizations this year, which require fraternities and sororities to adhere to higher standards than required by most of their national organizations. This will require most chapters to change their programming, service and facility policies.

As 21-year-old students lined up to go to The Cellar last Wednesday, many were surprised by the strict carding policy at the on-campus bar. Some were even turned away when they tried to use a SpiderCard sporting a red spider icon to gain entry.

Richmond Athletics, UR Common Ground, Recreation and Wellness, the Office of the Chaplaincy and the Division of Student Development came together this past weekend to host Campus Pride and put on the first Campus Pride Sports Summit, a two-day event for University of Richmond students, administration and faculty, focusing on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered student-athletes.
