TOWSON, Md - The University of Richmond football team has won more games in a row than any other Division I team in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Spiders beat Towson University 42-14 Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium for their 17th-consecutive victory. "It feels really good to come out with a victory on the road against a very scrappy Towson team," Richmond head coach Mike London said. Photo Gallery The Tigers hung with the Spiders during the first half, and actually had a lead early during the third quarter, but Richmond answered with 22 unanswered points in 2 minutes and 33 seconds to put the game away. "In the first half, we missed two interceptions," London said.
The construction of the E. Claiborne Robins Stadium, which began in December 2008, is still on track to be completed by the first home football game next season on Sept.

The University of Richmond football team took advantage of seven turnovers by the University of Massachusetts on the way to its seventh win of the season, beating the Minutemen 34-12 on a rainy Saturday afternoon at UR Stadium. "It's hard to win football games and these guys played their hearts out," Richmond head coach Mike London said.
The 2009 football season is well under way and the Spiders are playing well enough to have six wins versus zero defeats.
The University of Richmond football team used 28 second-half points to defeat the University of Maine 38-21 on Saturday, extending its school-record winning streak to 15 games. The Spiders trailed 14-10 at halftime, but started the second half by scoring 28 unanswered points, highlighted by senior safety Derek Hatcher's 90-yard punt return touchdown.
