The women’s soccer team picked up its second win of the season against American
The University of Richmond women’s soccer team lost 3-2 against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on President’s Field in a back-and-forth game on Sept. 10.
UR’s loss against American was the team’s second overtime loss in just three games, so this time around, the Spiders’ offense came out prepared and with a sense of urgency from the get go.
Coming off the interception, the Spiders’ drive ended in another field goal attempt, but this time it was blocked, making Lopez 0-for-2 on field goals.
After a complete 3-0 victory over James Madison University, the University of Richmond field hockey team lost in overtime 2-1 at home against American University Sept. 1.
As the final whistle drew closer, UR kept attacking, trying to net a winner.
After a 2-1 overtime loss to Longwood University in their season opener, the University of Richmond field hockey team bounced back with a 3-0 victory over James Madison University Aug. 27. Over 600 people were in attendance as the first whistle sounded, including members from other athletic teams at UR.
The University of Richmond field hockey team took to Crenshaw Field for the first time this season on Aug. 25 with a game against Longwood University.
In the first half, the Spiders had two shots, whereas the Tribe had four. By period two, the Spiders only had two more shots while the Tribe added 14 for a total of 17 shots.
“I mean, it’s been a dream since I was a kid,” Dykes said. “I mean, it was something that I’ve always wanted to do when I started playing football.”
The Spiders were able to get to the other side of the field in their own right, setting up four corner kicks in the first 45 minutes of play, but overall, gameplay from both teams proved back-and-forth for the entire game.
Senior goalkeeper Taylor Montague had one save on the evening and the Spiders tallied seven shots, four of which were shots on goal.
In six games, Gilyard scored 39 points, had 39 assists, grabbed 23 rebounds and had 16 steals. On July 7, Gilyard, the all-time NCAA steals leader, even notched seven steals in one game.
After becoming head coach of the University of Richmond baseball team on June 22, Mik Aoki reflected on adapting to a new lifestyle, moving back to the east coast and what he’s excited about this season.

Tyler Burton, ‘23, who spent four years on the team, will no longer be suiting up for the Spiders.
The Spiders remained in the driver’s seat in the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles 9-5 in the final 30 minutes of regulation and ultimately winning 18-8.
In the first quarter, the Cavaliers had the upper hand, scoring the first two goals of the game and leading the Spiders 5-2 through the first 15 minutes of regulation.
The University of Richmond men’s lacrosse team defeated High Point University 15-8 May 6 to claim its first Atlantic 10 Championship.
The University of Richmond women’s lacrosse team defeated the top-seeded University of Massachusetts 20-13 at Cary St. Field May 7.
