Jones' 25 not enough as Spiders fall to George Washington

Five George Washington University players scored in double figures as the Colonials bruised and bullied their way to a 73-65 victory in a game that had 14 lead changes Tuesday night at the Robins Center. George Washington, which is second in the Atlantic 10 in team rebounding, grabbed 16 offensive boards and out-rebounded Richmond, which is last in the A-10 in rebounding, 45-33. George Washington head coach Mike Lonergan was not surprised by his team's success on the glass. "I was hoping we could exploit that weakness even more," Lonergan said. Losing starting center Alonzo Nelson-Ododa to foul trouble early did not help.

The University of Richmond men's basketball team won its third straight game since losing Cedrick Lindsay and Derrick Williams Saturday evening at the Robins Center, beating Fordham University, 82-70. The Spiders did not feel sorry for themselves when they learned Lindsay, who suffered a torn meniscus in each knee, and Williams, who left the team for personal reasons, were done for the season, and their recent focus led to this winning streak, head coach Chris Mooney said. "I thought we refocused," Mooney said, "and I thought we zeroed in on each task at hand.

When senior catcher JB Gadd heard the news that Tracy Woodson had been hired as University of Richmond's new head baseball coach, he was thrilled at the prospect of being able to learn from a former Major League Baseball player. Almost seven months later, with a fall full of major league-caliber coaching behind them, Gadd and his teammates are looking forward to seeing how the newly configured team performs competitively as the Spiders prepare to kick off their 2014 season, he said. In June 2013, former head coach Mark McQueen resigned after 19 years with the Richmond baseball program.
