A strong running game and four field goals from Brandon Jordi, which tied a school record for field goals in a single game, helped University of Richmond (3-6, 1-4 CAA) end a four-game losing streak and win its first conference game Saturday against University at Albany (1-8, 0-5), 27-10. "I said in the locker room after the game, 'Hats off to two guys: Brandon Jordi...and Seth Fisher,'" Richmond coach Danny Rocco said. The University of Richmond athletic department annually budgets an undisclosed amount so the football team can sleep in hotels the night before home games, a practice common among almost every team in Division I football. It is not the athletic department's policy to give exact budget figures, but athletic department officials said this undisclosed amount came from private donations specified by the donor. Danny Rocco, Richmond's head coach, said the tradition was necessary for game-day performance.

Terrance West led No. 6 Towson (8-1, 4-1 CAA) to a 48-32 victory over Richmond (2-6, 0-4) Saturday in Robins Stadium. West, who is the Football Championship Subdivision leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, had a career-high 272 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown to give the Tigers their ninth-straight road win. Richmond head coach Danny Rocco said a lot of West's runs had been schematically defended well, but West's physicality made it difficult to tackle him. "He is explosive and he really refuses to go down," Rocco said. After Richmond failed to score on its opening series, West took his second carry 79 yards, which set up his six-yard touchdown reception. His long run was important because it got both him and the team going, West said. Despite West's dominating performance, Richmond hung in the game for a while thanks to Richmond's passing offense.

The University of Richmond field hockey team went ahead of Saint Francis University 4-0 in the first 15 minutes and never let the Red Flash back in to the game.
Although a 2-5 record is the last thing the University of Richmond football team expected to have at this point in the season, the team said it would have a chance to turn it around this weekend when Towson, ranked sixth nationally in the Football Championship Subdivision, visits Robins Stadium. In a postgame interview following last week's loss to the University of Rhode Island, head coach Danny Rocco was candid about Richmond's winless record in the Colonial Athletic Association.
