Academic stress doesn't bring out the best in any of us. Some retreat to the library for 24+ hours, subsisting off 8:15 bagels and red eyes (double shot, iced, with skim). Some plan ahead, only to spend the morning leading up to the exam or deadline freaking out that they didn't study hard enough, or forgot an essential detail.

As many people know, the anti-gay marriage laws DOMA (Defense of Marriage) and Proposition 8 have been up for review in the Supreme Court these past few days. Probably most of us wouldn't know about this if it weren't for the profile picture-changing phenomenon that has swept the country along with it (at least I'm assuming that it has swept the country- my Facebook friends are pretty localized on this coast).
On Tuesday, March 26, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) asked people to change their Facebook profile pictures to a pink-on-red equal sign avatar to show support for marriage equality as the Supreme Court met to decide the future of same-sex marriage in the United States.

Richmond shutout Rhode Island on Homecoming Weekend, 39-0. The win moved the Spiders record to 6-3 overall, and 4-2 in conference play.
The Richmond men's soccer program played its final game on Friday, as it was announced earlier this year that it would be cut, along with men's track and field, in favor of adding a men's lacrosse program. The team played to 3-3 tie with nationally-ranked VCU. Senior goalkeeper Chris Grover led the way for the Spiders with 11 saves, while Nick Butler, Oliver Murphy and Mannaan Umar scored a goal each.
Despite a fourth-quarter comeback by James Madison, Richmond was able to hold on for the win, 35-29, on Saturday in front of a sold-out Robins Stadium. The upset of the second-ranked Dukes serves as Danny Rocco's signature win in his first season as Spiders head coach. The star of the game for UR was sophomore quarterback Michael Strauss, who threw for 4 touchdowns in his first collegiate start. He'll start the rest of the season because incumbent starter John Laub suffered a broken ankle.
On the morning of Saturday, Sept. 22, the Gottwald atrium was scattered with laptops and cell phones. Less than 24 hours had passed since men's track and field team members heard that their team would be cut next year, but they were already bent over their supplies, talking strategy.
